TOOLS TO MAKE YOU A MARTER INVESTOR

Although many of us might have different approaches and strategies in the market, we realised that all value investors in my circle are all continuous learner. They are always looking to learn new ideas, new concepts and more importantly, new tools to make them better investors.
SGX Stockfact
SGX Stockfact is a database portal created by our local stock market operator. It allows you to search through information about listed companies on the exchange very quickly, making us a  smarter and more efficient investor.Besides providing financial information similar to SGX Stockfact, it also provides news and analyses on selected companies.
Singapore Exchange (SGX) and the Singapore Institute of Surveyors and Valuers (SISV) are jointly reviewing valuation practices and the reporting carried out by real estate valuers that listed issuers engage.
Investors rely on real estate valuations when making decisions on investments in REITs and business trusts. Quality valuations are therefore crucial to safeguarding investor interest and maintaining confidence in the REITs and business trust sector. Of particular interest to investors would be the methodologies and principal assumptions adopted in the valuation reports.

Differences Between Gambling and Investing in Stocks
This week, on National Day, I would like to write on above topic because I see a lot get burn by contra on recent sell down on pennies. There is nothing wrong in playing contra, which to me is a type of gambling, but there are strategies for gambling. Entering a contra trade blindly with no game plan is suicidal. Most people fall into traps of letting losses run while they take their profit fast.
A fifth of Permodalan Nasional Bhd.’s 266 billion ringgit ($62 billion) of assets under management is in cash and money markets, and Chairman Abdul Wahid Omar said in an interview that the fund could reduce such holdings by at least 5 percentage points. That would free up about 13.3 billion ringgit, according to Bloomberg calculations.
“Whilst we need to maintain a certain level of cash, it doesn’t have to be 20 percent,” said Wahid, a former cabinet minister who joined PNB a year ago. “We can easily go down to 15 percent and below.”
